Being A Forever Student
Education doesn’t end with a diploma. It’s not about the grades on a report card or the hours spent in a classroom. Being a forever student means valuing growth, curiosity, and ongoing learning throughout your life. It’s the mindset that says, “I’m not done yet. There’s still more to discover.”
Individuals like Tom Brady, Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, and Tony Robbins—are more than just successful; they are incredible role models for anyone aspiring to achieve greatness. What sets them apart isn't just their talent but their relentless commitment to learning. In other words, these are some of the most impressive “forever students” of our time.
Take Warren Buffett, for example, who famously spends 80% of his day reading to broaden his knowledge, 80%! Elon Musk, driven by his curiosity and determination, taught himself rocket science to revolutionize space travel. Tom Brady, despite being an underdog early in his career, became one of the greatest athletes in history by mastering the art of preparation and discipline. And Tony Robbins has inspired millions with his deep understanding of human potential and his ability to turn challenges into opportunities.
These icons are lifelong students, constantly striving to be better today than they were yesterday. Their stories remind us that success is about more than achievement; it's about the journey, the lessons learned, and the continuous pursuit of excellence. Their lives are a testament to what’s possible when passion, perseverance, and a hunger for learning intersect.
I must add one more thing. Each and every one of these students at one point in their lives was uneducated. They breathe the same air we do. You have just as much potential as they do. Build your foundation by being a forever student.
Why Lifelong Learning Matters
Ask anyone who’s worked with me: Is Brett smart? I’m confident the answer would be yes. This isn’t meant to sound arrogant, and it’s certainly not because of my education.
I’m not a college student. I’m actually a college dropout, but I know the value of education. Often, I see people believe that being educated and attending college are directly correlated. I will die on the hill that refutes that statement.
You don’t need to sit in a lecture hall to be a student. What matters is your passion for learning and your dedication to improving over time.
How to Get the Most Out of Learning
Being a student doesn’t mean passively sitting in a classroom. It’s about taking control of your education and diving deep into the process:
Be active in your learning. Don’t just listen—immerse yourself in the content. Take notes, ask questions, and connect with others.
Seek out mentors. Talk to people who have walked the path you’re on. Older professionals can provide guidance, and younger ones might surprise you with fresh insights. Being curious and hungry for knowledge will open more doors than you can imagine.
Be willing to listen. The most important part of asking any question is listening to the answer. If you aren’t willing to listen to the answer, you shouldn’t be asking the question.
Put knowledge into practice. Learning isn’t enough. To grow, you need to execute what you’ve learned, review the results, and use those insights to learn even more. This process creates what I call the “Student Cycle”—a loop of learning, doing, and refining.
Where to Find Knowledge
In today’s world, learning opportunities are everywhere:
The Internet: Platforms like YouTube and Google provide endless tutorials and articles.
Mentors and Coworkers: Seek advice from experienced individuals in your field.
Books: They’re timeless resources packed with knowledge.
Past Teachers: Don’t underestimate the value of reconnecting with educators who’ve inspired you. I was somebody who despised school, and now, I have plans to grab lunch with a past teacher. Funny what growing up can do.
Utilizing AI: We live in a world where AI can answer questions in seconds that just a few years ago would take extensive research to analyze and solve. I challenge you to open ChatGPT and ask it anything. Five dollars says you are impressed.
Final Thoughts
Being a forever student isn’t just a choice; it’s a commitment. It’s about staying curious, embracing challenges, and never settling for “good enough.”
