The Art of Setting and Achieving Life Goals
Goals are the why. They keep us moving forward, especially when the going gets tough.
To achieve success, you need goals—realistic ones that challenge you, but don’t overwhelm you. It’s important to break them into increments: short-term, medium-term, long-term, and "what if" dreams. Each level has its place, helping you grow one step at a time.
Here’s how I organize my life goals:
Short-term goals: What can I accomplish within a year?
Medium-term goals: What’s achievable in two to four years?
Long-term goals: What can I work toward over five or more years?
"What if" goals: Dreams so big, they feel almost out of reach—for now.
Short-Term Goals (Within the Year)
Short-term goals are about building momentum. They help you create good habits and see quick wins. Here are mine:
Stick to a content schedule: Consistency is key to growth. I want to stay on track every week.
Sign on at least two more clients: Growing my business starts with taking on new projects.
Take two more personal trips: Travel fuels creativity and keeps me inspired. I want to experience as much as possible in as many places as possible.
These goals focus on what you want to accomplish during the year, while balancing work and allowing for personal fulfillment.
Medium-Term Goals (Within 2-4 Years)
Medium-term goals require planning and persistence. They build the foundation for your dreams. Here are mine:
Hire an employee: A video editor to support my business—not full-time, but enough to free up my focus.
Reach six-figure revenue: This milestone would prove BJG Creations is sustainable.
Move out of my parents’ house: A personal step that represents independence.
These goals should push you to grow while still being realistic.
Long-Term Goals (5+ Years)
Long-term goals are about shaping the future. They’re ambitious, but achievable with dedication. Here are mine:
Expand beyond inbound marketing: Move into business consulting, video editing, and coaching.
Build a team of 10+ employees: Create an office culture where people love coming to work.
Have my own office: A place that fosters creativity and community within the BJG brand.
These goals are the bigger picture, the vision you should be working toward.
"What If" Goals
"What if" goals are your wildest dreams. They are distant, but they keep you inspired. Here are mine:
Create better education for kids like me: A mix of hands-on learning, mentorship, and community.
Own the New England Patriots: It’s a dream that feels impossible, but it’s fun to imagine.
Buy my childhood home: It is sentimental, an important piece of my story.
These dreams should remind you that no goal is too big if you keep learning and growing.
How Each Level Works Together
Every level of your goals matter. Short-term goals give you quick wins, medium-term goals build a foundation, and long-term goals shape your future. "What if" goals keep you dreaming big.
But goals shouldn’t weigh you down. Stay focused. Don’t let pressure consume you. Believe in yourself and take bold actions to achieve your dreams. Keep building relationships and investing in your skills. Stay curious. Stay passionate. Stay ambitious.
Being a forever student means always striving to learn and grow. That’s how you turn dreams into reality.
